Payment Options

How do I pay for my Better Insurance home policy?

You can pay for your Better Insurance home policy in one of two ways, in full, either at the beginning of your policy term using a credit or debit card or through escrow. Regardless of which option you choose, we'll charge your annual premium at the start of your term and again automatically at policy renewal.

Need to change the card on file? You can change your credit or debit card by clicking on My Payments at the top of the page when logged into your Better Insurance account. At this time, we’re only able to accept debit and credit cards for payment online. We unfortunately cannot accept pre-paid or reloadable-style card types.

When will my payment be taken out?

Your full-term policy payment will be charged at the time your policy is purchased. Future payments will be automatically deducted in full from the card on file or through your escrow account at policy renewal. To change the card on file, click on My Payments at the top of the screen when logged into your Better Insurance account.

What happens if my payment doesn't go through?

If you're paying for your policy via credit or debit card and the charge fails at the time of purchase, you will be notified and asked to provide a new card before the purchase can be completed. If you choose to pay via escrow and for some reason we don't receive that payment, we will contact you and request payment directly.

Payment Changes

What happens to my premium if I change my policy?

If you paid for your policy with a credit or debit card and you make a change to your Better Insurance home policy that increases your annual policy premium, you'll be charged the difference instantly. If your policy change results in a lower premium, we'll refund your debit or credit card currently on file, typically within 3 business days. In rare cases, your bank or credit card issuer may be unable to process your refund and will notify us. If that’s the case, we’ll issue you a check with your refund.

If you paid for your policy through escrow and you make a change to your Better Insurance home policy that increases your annual policy premium, we will bill your mortgage lender directly. If your policy change results in a lower premium, we'll issue you a check with your refund. That process can take up to 2-3 weeks.
